Since the release of the latest WoW expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, many players are frantic trying to collect as many vanity pets as possible. The reason for this is simple: you can earn some very impressive “achievements” that reward you for collecting a large number of these pets.
One such pet is so rare and valuable that some Alliance players will pay 2,000g or more to own it. This dresser mascot is called Black Tabby. The reason it is so rare is that it is only cultivable by a Horde character and drops from a rare NPC named Dalaran Spellscribe that appears once every 4-6 hours in the village of Ambermill in the Horde controlled area called Silverpine Forest in the Eastern Kingdoms.
What level should my character be?
Since Dalaran Spellscribe is a level 21 mob, you will need to have a Horde character that is at least level 19 in order to kill him. A useful tip: If you have a character of level 55 or higher on any server, you are eligible to create a Death Knight of the Horde to farm this NPC by taking it to Ambermill.
Where does it spawn?
The Dalaran Spell Scribe only spawns within the walled village of Ambermill and appears in one of three locations:
- You can spawn in the little house north of the town hall.
- You can spawn within the town hall itself.
- You can spawn inside the big house directly south of the town hall.
Keep in mind that he is always surrounded by other mobs so kill him first because if you die you can always go back and loot him.
More tips
You have a 19% chance of dropping the Black Tabby Pet Carrier, so be patient as it will probably take a while to get it. What I do is park my farm character right inside the city games, with my back to the wall. Then log in with your character several times a day to see if the Dalaran Spellscribe is active.
To make things even easier, you need to create a special macro that points to this NPC. Here is the only line you need to have in your macro:

The last thing to know is that in order to sell this vanity pet and make the maximum profit, you will need to smuggle the pet into an Alliance auction house using a friend or a second account through a neutral Goblin auction house.
